Yoga Science Foundation

Our organization was originally founded as a California 501(c)(3) corporation in 1998 under the name Yoga Research and Education Center (YREC) by author and independent yoga scholar Georg Feuerstein. Following Georg’s departure from YREC in 2003, Scott V. Anderson became volunteer director and Board Chair.

In 2007 YREC became the Yoga Research & Education Foundation (YREF) and began making grants. The Board’s first initiative was to fund the re-establishment of the International Association for Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and soon after began making grants in support of ground-breaking research and publishing efforts exploring the territory where yoga and science meet.

In early 2010, the Board elected to change the name of the organization to the Yoga Science Foundation (YSF).
